Acre shaking the blues

Pick up the May issue of Southern Living if you haven't. We're happy and honored to be included in a feature by Kim Cross - "Shake the Blues in Memphis."

She describes Acre: "wood-and-glass sanctuary is the newest creation of renowned chef Wally Joe. He and executive chef Andrew Adams craft American food with Asian accents and execute it with classical French technique..."

Thanks, Kim, for your kind words. Don't miss this great mention of Memphis!

If you haven't read it, it's still news!

We told you about the cover story on ACRE in the February food issue of Memphis Magazine when it came out weeks ago. But if you haven't read it, don't worry! Thanks to the staff of Driscoll Design Group, here's a nifty PDF file of the whole article you can download and read. Or you can read the article online here.

And it really is worth reading. Far more than a restaurant review, this piece, by local writer and friend of the restaurant Pamela Denney, is an in-depth focus on what makes ACRE tick, with quotes from everyone on the kitchen staff. Here's a taste, taken from the caption of one of the many photos (by local foodie and photographer Justin Fox Burks) that ran with the piece:

"Andrew Adams and Wally Joe lead a collaborative team of experienced chefs at ACRE, who use seasonal ingredients to spin innovative dishes from a wide range of familiar  foods, such as Truffle Studded Chicken with charred cauliflower, golden raisins and red-wine-truffle sauce"

ACRE in the Blogosphere

If you've been in ACRE, chances are you've been blown away by how beautiful it is in here.  If you haven't, you're really missing out - pictures just don't do it justice.

We're lucky to work with such a talented interior designer, Gwin Driscoll.  She's created such an inspiring environment for us and for our customers.  Come check out her amazing work at ACRE, or in the mean time, check out her blog, Ragland Hill Social.  She recently posted about a recent photo shoot here. Take a look; we know you'll feel inspired!

Thanks, Gwin, for all you do.

Have you picked up the February issue of Memphis Magazine? Don't miss it. There's a great article about the opening of ACRE as part of their 2012 Dining Feature Issue. Pamela Denney did a great job capturing our passion for cooking in writing, and Justin Fox Burks took some amazing pictures.

Plus, meet some of the chefs who work behind-the-scenes here at ACRE to make your experience the best it can be.

As always, thanks everyone for your continued support. We're so glad to be here.

ACRE flies high in December issue of Sky

The December issue of Delta Sky Magazine features a 37-page profile of Memphis that includes a nice write-up on ACRE. Writing for the in-flight magazine of Delta Airlines, local food writer Pamela Denney gives our eatery high marks:

"....nationally acclaimed chefs Wally Joe and Andrew Adams have pulled together remarkable kitchen talent following a meticulous two-year renovation of a midcentury home now called ACRE. look for the restaurant's bright yellow door, a charming invitation to food that Joe describes as modern American, a melting pot of influences much like his own upbringing in Cleveland, Mississippi.

With world flavors and local fare, they turn casual fine dining into a surprise vacation of flavor and fun. Snake river sturgeon is grilled and plated with fingerling potatoes and duck confit. For chicken Galantine, quinoa and mushrooms join crawfish argue. The season focus extends to the bar menu (truffle potato chips with malted bacon!) and to hand-mixed cocktails such as the gumbo martini, a mix of Tanqueray, pickled okra brine and a dash of white pepper."

A couple paragraphs in a magazine tucked into the back of every seat of the world's largest airline - works for us! Thanks, Pam!

Check out our first review in The Commercial Appeal!

The Commercial Appeal's Jennifer Biggs calls ACRE a "new star...a brightly shining one" on the Memphis dining stage.

Speaking of stars, she gave us three-and-a-half- we'll take 'em!

ACRE's away, running

The Memphis dining stage has a new star, and it's a brightly shining one. Acre opened in May with more fanfare than any local restaurant in recent memory, and has had a full house from day one.

The space is beautiful. If you follow the restaurant scene even slightly, you've heard talk about the expense of the renovation, about the painstaking attention to detail from the tables to the upholstery, the linens to the lighting, the wood to the stunning oversized Roberto Dutesco prints of Sable Island horses.

Acre is in a renovated house, tucked away on Perkins behind Theatre Memphis. Old houses make for cozy and welcoming restaurants anyway, and this is a spectacular example of refinement and comfort from the porch to the patio.

The sun room at Acre showcases the new restaurant's ambitious renovation of a home on S. Perkins in East Memphis. The lighting, the linens, the wood and the artwork all echo the restaurant's commitment to top-quality fresh ingredients. Photo by Kyle Kurlick Executive chef Andrew Adams prepares plates of Côte de Boeuf, a pan-roasted ribeye dish.

While there are people who will go to Acre just to see it (and to be seen), it will be the food that gets diners in again and again.

Welcome to ACRE!

There is no other feeling in the world quite like anticipation. And Memphis is full of it right now - as warmer days and greening landscapes turn our minds to blooming flowers, the bounty of local farmer's markets and more time spent outdoors.

And of course, nothing builds up an appetite like waiting. For the friends and food lovers who have followed me from my days at KC's in Cleveland to my first restaurant here in Memphis to the Brushmark, I want to say, "Thank you - your wait is almost over!"

The idea behind this new restaurant, ACRE, has been brewing for more than four years. When we open in a few short weeks, Executive Chef Andrew Adams and I, along with our staff, will be ready to serve you the kind of fresh, simple and inventive food we've been dreaming of for years in a unique and comfortable setting that we never imagined was possible. But thanks to Mary and Frank Stanley, Gwen Driscoll, Doug Enoch and a host of other talented and committed folks, it is!

We hope you'll visit us soon. We can't wait to serve you the delicious food and show you the warm hospitality that your patience and loyalty deserves.
